This is a 6-hour workshop during which you will learn about the warm glass method of fusing and slumping. You will be taught the basic skills needed to make two or three items.

Scroll through the slideshow to see examples of students' work and get some ideas. I usually recommend that you make a round or square plate or some coasters plus a smaller item or two if you have time.

The workshop takes place in my studio in Gloucester, which can accommodate up to three students. The price includes tuition, materials, use of tools, kiln firings, refreshments and a delicious home-made lunch.

• One to one tuition - you will have exclusive use of the studio and my tuition time - £160

• £140 per person where you share the studio and my tuition time with up to two others. There is a 10% discount for two or three people booking together for the same day.

 

The day will cover: 

 

• health and safety in the studio

• creating a design

• the types of glass to use and why glass thickness is important

• cutting glass shapes

• using accessories to decorate your piece (crushed glass, powders, pens, stringers)

• what happens to the glass inside the kiln

• assembling your piece ready for firing

 

The day will start at 10am and aim to finish about 4pm though sometimes a bit more time is needed. Refreshments will be served during the day and we’ll take a lunch break about 1pm.

 

All the pieces made on the day will be fired later and will be available for you to collect within two weeks of the workshop. If you are unable to pick up your work it can be posted to you (please note there will be a £10 postage and packing fee which you can pay on the day).

 

It is recommended that you 

• bring reading glasses if you need them for close work

• wear old clothes and comfortable closed toed shoes
